Kauai FAQ
A Little About Kaua‘i
Considered the “Garden Isle”, Kaua‘i is Hawaii’s fourth largest and northernmost island. Lush green valleys, sharp mountains, jagged cliffs, waterfalls, tropical rainforests and turquoise water aged by time and the elements are some characteristics of the beauty of the island. Kaua'i is the oldest of the main islands at 5.1 million years old. The lava left her volcanoes long ago as the natural process of erosion took over, eating away at the island's size while at the same time creating unimaginable beauty on the NaPali coast. If you’re interested in volcano tourism, you’ll want to head to the big island of Hawai'i, which is home to Kilauea and Mauna Loa.
A few notes about the climate
Elevation ranges from sea level to just over 5,000 feet atop Kawaikini. By vehicle, the highest elevation you'll be able to reach is just over 4,000 feet, so you won't need the larger jacket like you would if visiting Maui or the Big Island. A light sweater or jacket will suffice. Kaua'i is home to the world's wettest location, Waialeale, which receives over 450 inches of rain annually - that's almost 40 feet! All of that water leads to the most navigable rivers of any island in the chain, the most popular being Wailua on the east coast. Temperatures range from the lower 50's in Kokee State Park to the upper 80's along the South Shore. Kaua'i is considered to be semi-tropical and is home to a variety of micro-climates depending on your location around the island. As noted above, in some places you'll need a light jacket, while in others a bathing suit is more than enough. It is also ubiquitous to be in the rain one minute on Kaua'i and in full sun the next.
How can I support local farmers?
Kauai Farmers Markets, locally known as Sunshine Markets, are a must-see experience when visiting the island of Kauai. Dozens of local farmers sell a variety of unique organic produce and stunning tropical flowers in a festive and colorful outdoor atmosphere. Kauai farmers travel around the island and offer a variety of goods that will enhance your taste for the islands. Enjoy a refreshing ice-cold coconut out of a straw, the strange-looking but delicious rambutan fruit, juicy mangos, sunrise papayas, and unforgettable apple bananas.
Wedding Vibes
Attire: Attire: Think semi-formal or dressy casual—but most importantly, come as yourself!
Weather: Rain is part of Kauai’s charm—it comes and goes in short bursts! The ceremony will be uncovered, but don't fret, the venue has umbrellas, just in case. (However, you may want to bring some sunglasses!)
Pro Tip: Our dinner reservation isn’t until 7 p.m., so a hearty lunch or snack for the road might help keep the good times rolling!
